Policies Restricting Overlapping Surgeries Negatively Impact Access to Care, Clinical Efficiency, and Hospital Revenue A Forecasting Model for Surgical Scheduling

Cameron Brandon et al.

Summary: This study aims to model the financial impact of policies governing the scheduling of overlapping surgeries and identify optimal solutions that maximize operating efficiency while fulfilling ethical obligations to patients. The results show that restricting the scheduling of surgeries may lead to significant financial losses for hospitals. However, an optimal scheduling scenario was identified that improves surgeon efficiency, reduces idle time in the operating room, and minimizes revenue losses.
