The inhibition effects of Cu and Ni alloying elements on corrosion of HSLA steel influenced by Halomonas titanicae

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: Adding a small amount of copper and high nickel content can improve the corrosion resistance of high strength low alloy steel by reducing the number of corrosive bacterial cells. Copper has a stronger inhibitory effect than nickel, with its biofilm inhibition mechanism mainly achieved through the release of bactericidal copper ions.

A study of bacteria adhesion and microbial corrosion on different stainless steels in environment containing Desulfovibrio vulgaris

T. T. T. Tran et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adhesion of sulfate-reducing bacteria on different stainless steels in artificial seawater, finding that the alloy elements and surface properties of stainless steels can affect bacterial attachment which subsequently influences microbial corrosion behaviors. The corrosion rate of the materials is determined by not only bacterial attachment but also the stability of the passive film, influenced by alloying elements such as Mo and Cr. Stainless steel with chromium showed high resistance to corrosion possibly due to its toxicity on bacterial attachment.

Deep-sea corrosion rusticles from iron-hulled shipwrecks

Lina M. Silva-Bedoya et al.

Summary: The study reveals that rusticles grow at a rate of approximately 1 cm per year, mainly over the areas of the hulls that remained underwater. They consist of iron oxides and high levels of toxic metals, with a connection to the quality of antifouling paints.

Summary: The experiments demonstrated that treatment with DNaseI inhibited cellular adsorption but was restored upon DNA treatment. Single-molecule force spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations revealed the impact of calcium and sodium ions on the adsorption of eDNA to silicon surfaces.
