Peptide-Based Hydrogels and Nanogels for Delivery of Doxorubicin

Enrico Gallo et al.

Summary: Peptide-based hydrogels and nanogels loaded with Doxorubicin or its liposomal formulation were successfully synthesized and characterized with high drug loading content and stability. The relative peptide composition was found to influence drug release kinetics and cell viability. The different cellular localization of the drug delivered through hydrogels and nanogels suggests alternative internalization mechanisms, showing potential for drug delivery applications.

Synthesis of Pluronic F127-coated magnesium/calcium (Mg1-xCaxFe2O4) magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications

Pamela Yajaira Reyes-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: In this study, Mg1-xCaxFe2O4 nanoparticles were synthesized by the thermal decomposition method and evaluated for magnetic hyperthermia applications. The substitution of Mg2+ by Ca2+ ions resulted in an increase in lattice parameter of the samples with an inverse spinel structure. The Pluronic F127 coated ferrites showed promising heating ability and minimal hemolysis values, suggesting their potential as thermoseeds for magnetic hyperthermia treatment.

Bolaamphiphilic Bis-Dehydropeptide Hydrogels as Potential Drug Release Systems

Carolina Amorim et al.

Summary: In this study, four symmetrical bolaamphiphiles based on dehydrodipeptides were prepared and their self-assembly properties were investigated. The results showed the bolaamphiphiles can form self-standing hydrogels and provide sustained release. These hydrogelators are non-toxic to cells and have an elastic modulus similar to native tissues.

Magneto-responsive hydrogels by self-assembly of low molecular weight peptides and crosslinking with iron oxide nanoparticles

Benedikt P. Nowak et al.

Summary: The study reports a peptide-based gelator, Nap GFYE, that can form hydrogels and incorporate Fe3O4 superparamagnetic nanoparticles to create a hybrid gel that transitions from a gel to sol state upon application of a weak magnetic field. The magnetic nanoparticles act as crosslinkers for the self-assembled peptide nanostructures, enhancing the mechanical properties of the gel and enabling on-demand release of a fluorescent dye.
