Synthesis of an amino-terminated waterborne polyurethane-based polymeric dye for high-performance dyeing of biomass-derived aldehyde-tanned chrome-free leather

W. Ding et al.

Summary: The amino-terminated waterborne polyurethane-based polymeric dye (AWPUD) was successfully synthesized for dyeing chrome-free leather tanned by biomass-derived aldehyde (BAT). AWPUD showed better dyeing performances compared to small-molecule dyes (SMDs) in terms of dye penetration degree, chroma of wastewater, and filler-dye uptake ratio, as well as improved dyeing uniformity, rubbing resistance, and thermal stability.Overall, AWPUD has the potential to be used in high-performance dyeing of BAT-tanned leather, offering superior physical properties.

A Taiji-Bagua inspired multi-functional amphoteric polymer for ecological chromium-free organic tanned leather production: Integration of retanning and fatliquoring

Xinhua Liu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a novel amphoteric polymer P (AA-AM-C12DM) as a wet finishing material in organic tanned leather, which enhances the physical and mechanical properties of the leather and its reactivity to anionic dyes through its unique structure and molecular interactions. The findings suggest potential application of P (AA-AM-C12DM) to promote cleaner production in the leather industry by coordinating well with an ecological chrome-free organic tanning system.

Life Cycle Assessment for Chrome Tanning, Chrome-Free Metal Tanning, and Metal-Free Tanning Systems

Yue Yu et al.

Summary: Life cycle assessment was used to compare the environmental impacts of chrome tanning, chrome-free metal tanning, and metal-free tanning systems for leather production. The results showed that the metal-free tanning system had the lowest environmental impacts, making it a more sustainable choice for leather production.
