Highly Multifunctional and Thermoconductive Performances of Densely Filled Boron Nitride Nanosheets/Epoxy Resin Bulk Composites

Kun Fu et al.

Summary: Highly filled hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)-based polymeric composites with ultrahigh boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs) content of 65-95 wt % were successfully prepared using a mechanical-balling prereaction and pressure molding method, exhibiting excellent mechanical properties and high thermal conductivities. These composites also showed low coefficient of thermal expansion, suitable dielectric constants, exceptional dielectric loss tangent values, and remarkable cycle stability in heat transfer, suggesting great potential for practical application in thermal management fields.

Ice-templated assembly strategy to construct three-dimensional thermally conductive networks of BN nanosheets and silver nanowires in polymer composites

Haitong Li et al.

Summary: Polymer composites are widely used in electronic packaging materials due to their low cost, flexibility, chemical stability, and high malleability. This study introduces a novel ice-templated assembly strategy to construct thermally conductive networks in epoxy resin composites, significantly improving the through-plane thermal conductivity while maintaining other important properties. The resulting polymer composite shows great potential for use in advanced packaging materials such as substrate materials and printed circuit board materials.

Exceptionally thermally conductive and electrical insulating multilaminar aligned silicone rubber flexible composites with highly oriented and dispersed filler network by mechanical shearing

Yang Xue et al.

Summary: The design of multilayered structure network is an effective strategy to enhance thermal conductivity and maintain electrical insulating performance of thermal management materials. By layer by layer assembly of prefabricated silicone rubber/boron nitride and silicone rubber/expanded graphite, a highly oriented and dispersed filler network was successfully constructed. The study demonstrates that the multilayered hybrid material exhibits excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation properties.

Summary: This study demonstrates that the addition of a small amount of silver nanowires (AgNWs) to EP/S-Al2O3 composites can significantly enhance thermal conductivity without sacrificing processability. The micro-nano EP/AgNWs/S-Al2O3 composites exhibit high thermal conductivity, low viscosity, low coefficient of thermal expansion, and high glass transition temperature.

Tuning Epoxy Thermomechanics via Thermal Isomerization: A Route to Negative Coefficient of Thermal Expansion Materials

Jeffrey C. Foster et al.

Summary: Fine control over the thermal expansion and contraction behavior of polymer materials is challenging, but can be achieved by incorporating thermally contractile dibenzocyclooctane (DBCO) motifs within the thermoset network. The atypical thermomechanical behavior observed in this study is rationalized in terms of a twist-boat to chair conformational equilibrium of the DBCO linkages, and is expected to be generally useful in the preparation of materials with specific CTE values.
