The anatomy of past abrupt warmings recorded in Greenland ice

E. Capron et al.

Summary: The diversity in the sequence of abrupt changes seen in ice-core data is also observed in climate parameters derived from numerical simulations, indicating self-sustained abrupt variability arising from internal atmosphere-ice-ocean interactions. The tight decadal-scale coupling between Greenland climate, North Atlantic sea ice and atmospheric circulation during past events suggest that statistically-robust leads and lags between different components of the climate system may not be inferred during abrupt events.

A 120,000-year long climate record from a NW-Greenland deep ice core at ultra-high resolution

Vasileios Gkinis et al.

Summary: This study presents high resolution measurements of stable isotope ratios of ancient ice from North Greenland, covering a period of 8-130 thousand years before 2000. The record includes important climate events and interglacial ice from the Eemian period, with isotope ratios calibrated on specific scales and time scales interpolated accordingly. Precision and accuracy estimates are provided for both delta O-18 and delta D measurements.

Pervasive diffusion of climate signals recorded in ice-vein ionic impurities

Felix S. L. Ng

Summary: Recent studies have shown that vein signals in ice are strongly affected by diffusion, preventing their survival into deep ice layers and discrediting the original paleoclimatic theory. Simulations suggest that artificial reduction of solute diffusivity in water is necessary for signals to penetrate the deepest ice layers. Additionally, fluctuations in ice grain size may cause the formation of non-migrating solute peaks in ice cores.
