Diatoms decorated with gold nanoparticles by In-situ and Ex-situ methods for in vitro gentamicin release

Sarah Briceno et al.

Summary: In this study, natural diatoms were chemically modified with gold nanoparticles using In-situ and Ex-situ methods for gentamicin drug delivery. The Ex-situ method showed a faster release rate reaching up to 93% in 10 days, while the In-situ method exhibited a slower release behavior. The fluorescence properties of diatoms were enhanced after gentamicin loading.

On the diatomite-based nanostructure-preserving material synthesis for energy applications

Patrick Aggrey et al.

Summary: Diatomaceous earth is highlighted as an eco-friendly source of silica for energy applications, offering desirable nano- to micro-structures for optimum performance. Despite current research focusing on creating required nano- to micro-structures, challenges remain due to high costs and potentially harmful chemical synthesis techniques. The trend analysis establishes a clear pathway for diatomaceous earth as a source material for current and future energy applications.
