Automated integration of extract-based CFD results with AR/VR in engineering education for practitioners

Serkan Solmaz et al.

Summary: The study proposes a component-oriented system architecture for generating dedicated workflows for any kind of AR/VR environment supported by CFD simulations. It further explores data processing options during the preparation of the simulation dataset with AR/VR, while introducing an automated data coupling strategy to simplify multiplatform integration. The integration strategy aims to provide practitioners with simple, easy-to-implement, end-to-end, automated, and cost-free utilities.

An XML-based approach for geo-semantic data exchange from BIM to VR applications

Alireza Khalili

Summary: Virtual Reality (VR) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) have been steadily growing and found practical applications in the AEC/FM industry. However, data exchange between BIM and VR is complex and time consuming. This research proposes a novel method to enable efficient interoperability of BIM and VR, including geometry and semantic data extraction from BIM models for optimized import into VR environments. The method was demonstrated through a building case study showcasing short transfer time, high quality rendering, and geo-semantic data exchange for design and construction.

Integrated impacts of building height and upstream building on pedestrian comfort around ideal lift-up buildings in a weak wind environment

Lan Chen et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the integrated effects of building height and upstream building on pedestrian comfort around lift-up buildings, showing that increasing building height, removing upstream buildings, and adjusting relative positions can improve wind comfort but the effects on thermal comfort vary seasonally. The findings provide inspiration for city planners to improve pedestrian comfort in high-density cities.

BIM and Data-Driven Predictive Analysis of Optimum Thermal Comfort for Indoor Environment

Vincent J. L. Gan et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new computational framework based on BIM and machine learning models to analyze the impact of natural ventilation on indoor thermal comfort, using CFD modeling and neural network analysis. The study finds that while natural ventilation can save energy consumption, it may not fully meet all thermal comfort criteria, so seasonal performance variations should be considered.
