Sociodemographic disparity in the nutritional status among children and adolescents in Zhejiang Province

Summary: The study found a high prevalence of overweight and obesity, deficiency and inadequacy of vitamin D, deficiency and marginal deficiency of vitamin A among children and adolescents in Zhejiang Province. There were significant disparities in nutritional status between genders and living areas. This highlights the need for regional and sex-specific guidelines and public health policies for children and adolescent nutrition.

Associations Between Antioxidant Vitamin Status, Dietary Intake, and Retinol-binding Protein 4 Levels in Prepubertal Obese Children After 3-month Weight Loss Therapy

Summary: This study aimed to investigate changes in fat-soluble vitamin status in obese children undergoing weight loss therapy and their associations with dietary intake, anthropometric parameters, and adipokines. The findings showed that obese children with weight loss had lower intake of vitamin E, increased ratios of vitamin A and E to lipids, and positive correlations between changes in vitamin levels and dietary intake, adipokines, and anthropometric parameters.

Changing trends in nutritional status of adolescent females: a cross-sectional study from urban and rural Bangladesh

Summary: The study found that the proportion of undernutrition among adolescent girls in Bangladesh has significantly decreased over time, while the proportion of overweight has increased. Higher literacy and better wealth status were associated with improved nutritional status of the participants.

Association of serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D with obesity-related indices in Chinese adults: A cross-sectional study

Summary: The study found a positive association between obesity and lower serum 25(OH)D concentration among Chinese adults. In addition to BMI, novel obesity-related indices ABSI and BRI were also associated with lower serum 25(OH)D levels to some extent. Further research is needed to determine their potential as screening tools in clinical practice.

The Impact of the Coronavirus Disease-2019 Pandemic on Childhood Obesity and Vitamin D Status

Summary: The risk of weight gain in children during the COVID-19 pandemic due to school closure and social distancing has been studied in a cohort of 226 children. Results showed an increase in BMI and rates of obesity, as well as higher triglyceride and lower vitamin D levels in the 6-month period following school closure. Duration of closure and pre-existing weight categories were identified as factors influencing changes in BMI during this period.
