Effects of different levels of rapeseed cake containing high glucosinolates in steer ration on rumen fermentation, nutrient digestibility and the rumen microbial community

Jian Gao et al.

Summary: Increasing levels of dietary rapeseed cake (RSC) with high glucosinolates (GLS) affected rumen fermentation, nutrient digestion, and the rumen microbial community in steers. The results showed changes in ruminal concentration of thiocyanate, ammonia nitrogen, molar proportion of isovalerate, crude protein digestibility, and ether extract digestibility. The study also revealed shifts in bacterial diversity and richness with increasing RSC levels in the diet.
