Dynamics of water confined in mesopores with variable surface interaction

Aicha Jani et al.

Summary: The dynamics of liquid water confined in mesoporous materials is mainly influenced by the water/surface interaction. The strength of this interaction determines the long-time tail of water dynamics, while the water dynamics in the pore center is barely affected by the interface hydrophilicity.

Abnormal Properties of Low-Dimensional Confined Water

Dianyu Wang et al.

Summary: Water molecules confined to low-dimensional spaces exhibit unusual properties compared to bulk water. For example, the alternating hydrophilic and hydrophobic nanodomains on flat silicon wafer can induce the abnormal spreading of water which is caused by the 2D capillary effect. These diverse properties of confined water open a new door to materials science and may play an important role in the future development of biology.

Biomimetic anti-freezing polymeric hydrogels: keeping soft-wet materials active in cold environments

Yukun Jian et al.

Summary: Hydrogels, as outstanding materials, have been extensively studied for various fields of application, but their properties are compromised at sub-zero temperatures. Lowering the liquid-solid phase transition temperature is crucial for expanding their applications. Research on anti-freezing hydrogels mainly focuses on additives, polymer network modification, and future developments hold promising research directions.
