Accounting for the Presence of Molecular Clusters in Modeling and Interpreting Nucleation and Growth

Byeongho Ahn et al.

Summary: The study shows that the formation of molecular clusters affects crystallization kinetics by decreasing monomer concentration and thermodynamic driving force. Accounting for cluster formation is crucial for interpreting kinetic data accurately in systems prone to cluster formation, but has no effect in systems with negligible cluster formation. The novel method of estimating gamma by considering cluster formation in a growth kinetic model is successfully applied and shown to closely match actual or reported values.
