Occupational exposure to noise in relation to pregnancy-related hypertensive disorders and diabetes

Claudia Tyemi Lissaker et al.

Summary: This study found that occupational noise exposure was associated with an increased risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and gestational diabetes, particularly in first-time mothers working full-time. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and determine the impact of hearing protection on this association for the implementation of prevention policies.

Review of Wearable and Portable Sensors for Monitoring Personal Solar UV Exposure

Xiyong Huang et al.

Summary: Sunlight is a vital environmental resource for all living organisms on Earth, with UV radiation playing a crucial role in synthesizing vitamin D in the human body. While sun exposure has health benefits, excessive UV exposure can lead to adverse effects such as eye diseases and skin cancers. UV intensity depends on environmental factors, personal outdoor activities, and skin sensitivity. Various UV sensors have been developed over the years to monitor personal UV exposure and protect individuals from potential health risks.

The EU Child Cohort Network's core data: establishing a set of findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable (FAIR) variables

Angela Pinot de Moira et al.

Summary: The Horizon2020 LifeCycle Project is a cross-cohort collaboration focusing on early-life exposures and later health outcomes. The EU Child Cohort Network, a FAIR data resource, provides core variables for lifecourse research. By harmonising data and using a federated analysis platform, the network aims to increase statistical power, exposure heterogeneity, and accessibility for researchers, promoting cross-cohort comparisons and replication in a wider research community.

Particle and metal exposure in Parisian subway: Relationship between exposure biomarkers in air, exhaled breath condensate, and urine

I. Guseva Canu et al.

Summary: Subway particulate toxicity differs between in vitro and in vivo studies, calling for further research on outcomes from chronic exposures and exposure biomarkers. Monitoring of subway workers revealed varied daily temporal variation patterns in particle and metal exposures in PM, urine, and EBC matrices, highlighting the need for toxicological research to explore factors influencing health effects of low chronic exposures to subway particulates. Further studies should focus on understanding the health impacts of long-term exposure to subway particulates in larger population cohorts.

Use of Exposomic Methods Incorporating Sensors in Environmental Epidemiology

Brett T. Doherty et al.

Summary: The exposome encompasses all non-genetic factors that affect human health, and technologies like wearable passive samplers are emerging as promising tools for measuring complex multipollutant mixtures in individuals. Integrating exposomic data with other omic data presents exciting opportunities for investigating disease risk factors, but overcoming theoretical and methodological challenges is necessary to realize the potential promise of omic integration. Continued investment and improvement in exposomic sensor technologies may help refine their application and reduce outstanding limitations to advance the fields of exposure science and epidemiology.
