Gate Control of Spin-Layer-Locking FETs and Application to Monolayer LuIO

Rong Zhang et al.

Summary: A new 2D monolayer material called lutetium oxide iodide (LuIO) with strong Rashba effects has been proposed, which can be used for controlling spin channel selection in devices. The study characterizes and simulates the interplay of doping and spin channel selection, showing specific gate-operation guidelines for devices based on spin-layer locking.

Atomic scale symmetry and polar nanoclusters in the paraelectric phase of ferroelectric materials

Andreja Bencan et al.

Summary: Through aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy, the authors have identified static polar nanoclusters in the nominally non-polar cubic phases of (Ba,Sr)TiO3 and BaTiO3, shedding light on the understanding of atomic-scale structures of disordered materials and the origin of precursor states in ferroelectrics. These findings have implications for clarifying the dynamic-versus-static nature of nano-sized clusters and addressing long-standing questions in the physics of ferroelectrics.

Mass enhancement in 3d and s-p perovskites from symmetry breaking

Zhi Wang et al.

Summary: This study explores the mass enhancement phenomenon in various oxides by analyzing the contributions of different symmetry-broken structures. It finds that energy-lowering symmetry-broken spin effects and structural effects already manifest mass enhancement in d-electron perovskites and p-electron perovskites. The choice between symmetry-restricted dynamic approach and symmetry-broken mean-field approach reflects a trade-off between computational efficiency and accurately capturing strong electronic correlation.
