Quest for an Efficient 2-in-1 MOF-Based Catalytic System for Cycloaddition of CO2 to Epoxides under Mild Conditions

Marzena Pander et al.

Summary: A tandem postsynthetic modification strategy was developed for Zr-based metal-organic framework (MOF) materials, resulting in well-defined 2-in-1 heterogeneous catalysts with high catalytic activity in the synthesis of cyclic carbonates. Experimental measurements, including DRIFT and solid-state NMR, helped elucidate the role of each component in the catalytic reaction, especially the cooperative effect between Lewis acid sites and the co-catalyst in the heterogeneous system.

Fabrication strategies of porous precious-metal-free bifunctional electrocatalysts for overall water splitting: Recent advances

Jin-Tao Ren et al.

Summary: Utilizing renewable energy to perform electrocatalytic water splitting for hydrogen production is a promising approach to address energy crisis and environmental pollution. The development of low-cost electrocatalysts with high and stable activity for both HER and OER is a key challenge for large-scale water electrolysis. Recent innovations in porous non-noble-metal materials, including heteroatom-doped carbon-based and transition metal-based materials, have shown excellent electrocatalytic performance for overall water splitting. Understanding the structure-activity correlation of these materials provides insights for designing highly efficient electrocatalysts based on non-precious carbon or metal materials in the future.

Enhancing Photocatalytic Performance of NH2-UIO66 by Defective Structural Engineering

Zhenmin Xu et al.

Summary: This study synthesized defective NH2-UIO66 (NUX-H) with reduced delta E-LMCT through linkers removal via acid treatment, which substantially improved its photocatalytic activity towards Cr(VI) reduction. The structural defects in NUX-H strongly altered the environment of the Zr atoms and lowered the energy of the unoccupied d orbitals, resulting in efficient LMCT and a 47-fold increase in the reducing rate of Cr(VI) compared to defect-free NU.
