Four Generations of High-Dimensional Neural Network Potentials

Joerg Behler

Summary: Machine learning potentials have become an important tool in atomistic simulations over the past 25 years. The development of high-dimensional neural network potentials (HDNNPs) has allowed for the simulation of large systems with thousands of atoms, with continuous advancements leading to the emergence of fourth-generation HDNNPs. Despite some limitations, the future outlook for HDNNPs is promising with potential for further developments.

Fifty years of nucleophilic substitution in the gas phase

Roland Wester

Summary: Bimolecular nucleophilic substitution (S(N)2) reactions have become a model system for investigating structure-reactivity relationships, stereochemistry, solvent influences, and detailed atomistic dynamics. Progress in experimental and theoretical research on gas phase S(N)2 reactions over the past five decades has significantly advanced our understanding of these reactions' properties and dynamics.

Study on the kinetics and dynamics of the H2 + NH2- reaction on a high-level ab initio potential energy surface

Mengyi Pan et al.

Summary: Gas-phase ion-molecule reactions, specifically the reaction between an amino radical anion and a hydrogen molecule, were studied using a globally accurate full-dimensional potential energy surface. The results show that the reactivity of the proton transfer channel is stronger than that of the hydrogen exchange channel, and that vibrational excitation of H-2 promotes the proton transfer reaction. Theoretical rate coefficients for the proton transfer reaction on the potential energy surface exhibit inverse temperature dependence.

An accurate full-dimensional potential energy surface for the reaction OH plus SO → H + SO2

Jie Qin et al.

Summary: In this work, a full-dimensional accurate potential energy surface (PES-2020) for the reaction OH + SO -> H + SO2 is reported, calculated at the level of UCCSD(T)-F12a/aug-cc-pVTZ and fitted by the PIP-NN approach. Dynamics simulations on the new PES-2020 show a decrease in reactivity with increasing collision energy.
