Copper-Photocatalyzed Hydroboration of Alkynes and Alkenes

Mingbing Zhong et al.

Summary: A new photocatalytic hydroboration reaction using newly-designed copper photocatalysts has been reported. The reaction shows high yields, excellent diastereoselectivities, and a high tolerance for various functional groups under mild conditions. The reaction mechanism involves an oxidation reaction between an in situ formed borate and the Cu-photocatalyst in its excited state for the formation of the boryl radical.

Summary: The exploration of heterodentate phosphines containing anionic organophosphorus groups as ligands in the coordination chemistry of coinage metals remains largely unexplored. A study of a hybrid phosphine-phosphine oxide compound revealed its ability to form efficient intermolecular hydrogen bonding, leading to a significant impact on its photoluminescence properties. The compound also demonstrated excellent photocatalytic activity in a [2+2] cycloaddition reaction, marking the first realization of such reactivity for silver(I) compounds.
