RNA-seq and GSEA identifies suppression of ligand-gated chloride efflux channels as the major gene pathway contributing to form deprivation myopia

Loretta Giummarra Vocale et al.

Summary: The study found that induction of form-deprivation myopia led to significant suppression of the ligand-gated chloride ion channel transport pathway, while short-term recovery induced significant upregulation of gene families linked to cone receptor phototransduction, mitochondrial energy, and complement pathways. These findings support a model of form deprivation myopia as a Cl- ion driven adaptive fluid response.

SWATH Based Quantitative Proteomics Reveals Significant Lipid Metabolism in Early Myopic Guinea Pig Retina

Jingfang Bian et al.

Summary: Most of the previous myopic animal studies used lower resolution proteomics approaches and single-candidate methods, making it difficult to detect minor changes. This study utilized SWATH proteomic analysis to identify significant protein changes in pigmented guinea pigs after induced myopia, highlighting lipid metabolism as a top function associated with differentially expressed proteins. The study provides new insights for further research in myopia control.

RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis of human lens epithelial cells in age-related cataract

Zhongying Wang et al.

Summary: This study identified 698 up-regulated DEGs and 414 down-regulated DEGs in ARC patients compared to controls through transcriptome analysis. GO and KEGG bioinformatics analysis helped determine the functions and possible molecular mechanisms of significantly DEGs. The sequencing results were validated by RT-qPCR as accurate and reliable.

IMI Impact of Myopia

Padmaja Sankaridurg et al.

Summary: The global burden of myopia is on the rise, with increasing prevalence of myopia and high myopia expected to lead to higher costs in terms of vision loss and complications. Current global cost estimates related to direct health expenditure and lost productivity are in the billions, with higher health expenditure in adults. Further research is needed to understand the lifelong impact of myopia on individuals and the cost-effectiveness of novel approaches in reducing the burden.

Single cell RNA-sequencing data generated from human pluripotent stem cell-derived lens epithelial cells

Rachel Shparberg et al.

Summary: Detailed transcriptomic analyses of ROR1-expressing lens epithelial cells derived from human pluripotent stem cells revealed phenotypes associated with lens epithelial cells, providing a valuable resource for future studies on lens biology. This data, along with corresponding morphological and functional assessments, were reported in the research article by Dewi et al., 2020.
