Vortices and waves in light dark matter

Lam Hui et al.

Summary: The interference of waves in galactic halos inevitably leads to the formation of vortices, which exhibit universal features such as taking the form of vortex rings in three spatial dimensions and typically containing only single winding vortices in realistic scenarios. The density near a vortex scales as r(2) while the velocity goes as 1/r, and smaller vortex rings move faster due to their curvature scale. Observational and experimental signatures from these vortices and wave interference include gravitational lensing leading to flux anomalies in strongly lensed systems, as well as potential signal diminishment in detection experiments for QCD axions. We also propose the measurement of correlation functions by axion detection experiments to probe and utilize the expected interference substructures.

Electromagnetic bursts from mergers of oscillons in axion-like fields

Mustafa A. Amin et al.

Summary: The study focuses on investigating the bursts of electromagnetic and scalar radiation resulting from the collision and merger of oscillons made from axion-like particles. It is found that radiation becomes the dominant source of energy loss after the merger under resonance condition. The backreaction of scalar and electromagnetic radiation is also included in the simulations, providing insights into the time and energy scales involved in the process.

Completely dark photons from gravitational particle production during the inflationary era

Edward W. Kolb et al.

Summary: By utilizing the de Broglie-Proca Lagrangian, this study calculated the particle number density generated by gravitational particle production during inflation, taking into account the evolution of the number density during reheating. The research identified potential scenarios for the production of dark-photon dark matter with mass ranging from a micro-electron volt to 10^14 GeV, independent of any coupling between the dark photon and standard-model particles.

Ultra-light dark matter

Elisa G. M. Ferreira

Summary: Ultra-light dark matter, composed of bosons with masses ranging from 10(-24)eV < m < eV, has garnered attention for its ability to form a Bose-Einstein condensate or superfluid on galactic scales. Various models have been proposed, including fuzzy dark matter, self-interacting fuzzy dark matter, and DM superfluid, with the potential to reconcile the cold DM picture with small-scale behavior. These models present a rich phenomenology and are being tested using astrophysical and cosmological observations.

Higher spin dark matter

Stephon Alexander et al.

Summary: Limited knowledge exists about dark matter, but researchers are exploring the theory of higher spin fields to explain its origin and properties. They suggest that the gravitational production of superheavy bosonic higher spin fields during inflation could account for the dark matter we observe today, with potential distinctive signatures in directional direct detection.

Dipole radiation and beyond from axion stars in electromagnetic fields

Mustafa A. Amin et al.

Summary: The study explores the production of photons from coherently oscillating axionic fields in the presence of external electromagnetic fields, showing different behaviors of photon luminosity in relation to coupling parameter and configuration radius. A non-monotonic behavior of luminosity with coupling strength is observed in moderate to large coupling regimes, with a potential suppression at moderately large coupling and transition to exponential growth at sufficiently large coupling. Lattice simulations and discussions on medium effects and implications in astrophysical and cosmological settings are also conducted.

Beyond Schrodinger-Poisson: nonrelativistic effective field theory for scalar dark matter

Borna Salehian et al.

Summary: This paper systematically derives the SP equations and relativistic corrections from the nonlinear and fully relativistic KGE equations in an expanding universe, providing insights into deviations and applicability beyond the SP system. The method presented simplifies the analysis of scalar dark matter dynamics and accurately captures deviations from the SP system towards the full KGE case, particularly in calculating the mass-radius relationship of solitons.

Self-gravitating vector dark matter

Peter Adshead et al.

Summary: This study explores the nonrelativistic limit of a massive vector field, showing that the vector's spatial components behave as identical, noninteracting scalar fields. Various self-gravitating vector solitons in different geometries are found in the Newtonian limit, with gravitational properties depending on mass and particle mass. Ground-state vector solitons exhibit similarities to their scalar counterparts, and novel hedgehog vector soliton solutions are proposed, with weaker gravitational binding compared to the ground-state vector soliton. Additionally, the absence of spherically symmetric solitons with a divergence-free vector field is demonstrated.
