Ultrafine and well-dispersed Pd-Ni bimetallic catalyst stabilized by dendrimer-grafted magnetic graphene oxide for selective reduction of toxic nitroarenes under mild conditions

Summary: A facile and efficient strategy was introduced for growing a dendrimer structure on the surface of magnetic graphene oxide by using thiol-ene click reaction, and the dendrimer-grafted magnetic graphene oxide was utilized as a suitable support for bimetallic Pd-Ni nanoparticles. The prepared nanocomposite was successfully used for the reduction of toxic nitroarenes to aminoarenes in aqueous medium at room temperature, with good to excellent yields.

Pd-Ni bimetallic catalyst supported on dendrimer-functionalized magnetic graphene oxide for efficient catalytic Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction

Summary: In this study, a novel dendritic structure was grown on the surface of magnetic graphene oxide nanocomposite through thiol-ene click reaction. The resulting nanocomposite was used as a support for immobilizing Pd-Ni bimetallic nanoparticles, which showed excellent catalytic activity in Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction. The dendritic structure facilitated fast adsorption of reactants, while the synergistic effect between Pd and Ni nanoparticles further enhanced the catalytic activity.

Summary: A novel magnetically recoverable solid acid catalyst was synthesized by immobilizing sulfonic acid groups on triazine dendrimer-modified magnetic nanoparticles. The catalyst showed high efficiency in converting carbohydrates to 5-HMF in various deep eutectic mixtures as neoteric green and environmentally benign reaction media, and could be easily separated and recycled using a magnetic field.

Catalytic dehydration of fructose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural by propyl sulfonic acid functionalized magnetic graphene oxide nanocomposite

Summary: A solid acid catalyst with propyl sulfonic acid groups covalently immobilized on the surface of magnetic graphene oxide was reported for the efficient conversion of fructose to 5-HMF. The catalyst showed a high yield of 87% under optimized conditions, and exhibited stability and reusability for at least five cycles. The nanocomposite combined the advantages of high surface area from graphene oxide and fast separation by magnetic nanoparticles.

Microwave-Assisted Efficient Fructose-HMF Conversion in Water over Sulfonated Carbon Microsphere Catalyst

Summary: A simple hydrothermal carbonization method was used to synthesize sulfonated carbon catalysts from glucose, with the sulfuric acid concentration playing a specific role in preparing sulfonated carbon catalysts. The catalyst with moderate sulfur content and spherical stacking showed enhanced heat-transfer efficiency and increased energy efficiency in the fructose dehydration reaction under microwave-assisted heating. The optimized condition for HMF production was achieved at microwave input power of 60 W, reaction temperature of 186 degrees C, and reaction time of 10 min, with HMF yield of 88.3 mol % and energy efficiency of 0.147 mmol kJ(-1).

Summary: In this study, 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) was successfully synthesized from biomass-derived fructose using heterogeneous solid acid catalysts in a continuous flow process. Various solid acid catalysts were tested, with niobium phosphate (NbP), synthetic sulphated niobia (NbS), and Amberlyst 36 (Amb. 36) demonstrating high selectivity and activity for the conversion of fructose to 5-HMF. The optimal reaction conditions were determined, and the Amb. 36 catalyst was selected for its consistent catalytic activity and selectivity over time. Additionally, the catalyst showed recyclability without losing its catalytic performance.
