Cu-doped Fe2O3 porous spindles derived from metal-organic frameworks with enhanced sensitivity to triethylamine

Huijun Gao et al.

Summary: In recent years, the introduction of other elements has been an effective method to improve gas sensing performances by generating oxygen vacancies. Cu-doped alpha-Fe2O3 porous spindles were successfully prepared using MIL-88-Fe as the precursor through a simple solvothermal method. The presence of Cu ions helps restrain the growth of crystalline grains and enables the spindles to have a higher specific surface area and smaller pore sizes, leading to superior sensitivity towards triethylamine (TEA) in gas sensing applications.

Enhancement in reactivity via sulfidation of FeNi@BC for efficient removal of trichloroethylene: Insight mechanism and the role of reactive oxygen species

Ali Shan et al.

Summary: A novel catalyst of sulfidated iron-nickel supported on biochar (S-FeNi@BC) was synthesized for activating persulfate (PS) to remove trichloroethylene (TCE). The sulfur to iron ratio (S/F) influenced the TCE removal efficiency, with a significant role of sulfur in iron species conversion and recycling of Fe(II) for generating active radical species. EPR and quenching study confirmed the presence and contribution of these radicals, while XPS results demonstrated the dominant role of S(-II) in the PS/S-FeNi@BC system. Overall, S-FeNi@BC shows potential as an effective catalyst for TCE contaminated groundwater remediation.

Enhanced trichloroethylene degradation in the presence of surfactant: Pivotal role of Fe(II)/nZVI catalytic synergy in persulfate system

Zhiqiang Xu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the removal of trichloroethylene (TCE) in solutions involving non-ionic surfactant Tween-80 (TW-80) and anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) activated by Fe(II) activated persulfate (PS) with nanoscale zero valent iron (nZVI). It was found that the addition of nZVI significantly promoted TCE degradation, while the presence of TW-80 or SDS inhibited TCE removal. Furthermore, tests showed that HO• and SO4•- were major contributors to TCE degradation in the PS/Fe(II)/nZVI system.

Mechanism of surfactant in trichloroethene degradation in aqueous solution by sodium persulfate activated with chelated-Fe(II)

Yong Sun et al.

Summary: The study found that TW-80 was the optimal surfactant for TCE solubilization and degradation. In the presence of 1 g L-1 TW-80, over 97.5% of TCE was removed at the PS/Fe(II)/CA/TCE molar ratio of 30/4/4/1, with more than 86.7% of TCE dechlorinated. The results suggest the potential of the PS/Fe(II)/CA process for actual groundwater remediation in containing TW-80 of TCE contaminant.

Unveiling the catalytic ability of carbonaceous materials in Fenton-like reaction by controlled-release CaO2 nanoparticles for trichloroethylene degradation

Meesam Ali et al.

Summary: This study revealed the catalytic ability of carbonaceous materials via Fe(III) reduction for trichloroethylene (TCE) removal, with activated carbon and biochar showing high removal efficiency through adsorption and catalytic degradation. Results indicated that acidic pH conditions favored TCE removal, while the presence of HCO3- negatively affected the removal efficiency.

Meesam Ali et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated the prolonged benefits of the PVA@CP/Fe(II)/nFeS system in the Fenton-like reaction for TCE degradation, showing high efficiency in removing pollutants from groundwater, particularly under acidic conditions. The system also proved to be effective in reducing Fe(III) accumulation and showcased the dominant role of free hydroxyl radicals and the contribution of both free and surface-bound species in different environments. Additionally, the mechanism of regenerated Fe(II) on the nFeS surface was explored through XPS, emphasizing the potential reusability of nFeS and highlighting the viability of the technique in treating TCE-contaminated groundwater.
