Adsorptive removal of ciprofloxacin with different dissociated species onto titanate nanotubes

Haodong Ji et al.

Summary: This study investigated the adsorption behavior and mechanism of ciprofloxacin (CIP) with different dissociated species by titanate nanotubes (TNTs) through experimental and theoretical calculations. The results showed that the protonation/deprotonation state of CIP affects the adsorption ability, and the electrostatic potential energy can serve as an indicator of adsorption ability for PPCPs molecules. TNTs have great potential for removing PPCPs through adsorption in practical wastewater treatment.

Compositional heterogeneity of different biochar: Effect of pyrolysis temperature and feedstocks

Shaon Kumar Das et al.

Summary: The study found that the properties of biochar are mainly influenced by feedstock types rather than pyrolytic temperature. With an increase in pyrolysis temperature, the total carbon content and cation exchange capacity of biochar increased, while dissolved organic carbon decreased. By selecting the right feedstock type and standardizing pyrolytic temperature, biochar with different properties can be produced for specific environmental applications.

Hazards of phthalates (PAEs) exposure: A review of aquatic animal toxicology studies

Ying Zhang et al.

Summary: Phthalates are commonly used in plastic products and can enter the environment, leading to potential toxicity in aquatic animals. Exposure to Phthalates can activate detoxification and endocrine systems in aquatic animals, causing oxidative stress and metabolic disorders. In addition, combined pollution of Phthalates with other chemicals may result in altered toxicity effects in different directions.

A mechanistic study on removal efficiency of four antibiotics by animal and plant origin precursors-derived biochars

Xinyu Zhang et al.

Summary: Extensive research has been conducted on the utilization of biochar for pollutant removal via sorption, with a focus on the relationship between sorption strength of organic pollutants and their sorption site energy distribution. The removal efficiency of organic pollutants on biochars remains unknown, but recent studies have shown promising results using various precursor materials and charring temperatures. Polar interactions, site energy distribution, and precursor selection all play a crucial role in the efficiency of pollutant removal by biochars.

Performance and mechanism of a biochar-based Ca-La composite for the adsorption of phosphate from water

Yiyang Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, a calcium-modified biochar with high dephosphorization efficiency was prepared using sheep manure and oyster shells, but it was found to have low pH adaptability. Lanthanum-doped biochar demonstrated strong phosphate adsorption ability across a wide pH range, suggesting a potential method for improving the adsorption performance of calcium-modified biochar.

Summary: The experimental study on the removal of phosphate from water using Mg/Al-modified corn-cob biochar demonstrates that modified biochar has improved structural properties and adsorption capacity, with 20% Mg-BC showing better efficiency and a wider pH range for phosphate removal. The results suggest that Mg/Al-modified biochar is an environmentally friendly material for the recovery of eutrophic water.

The utilization of lobster shell to prepare low-cost biochar for high-efficient removal of copper and cadmium from aqueous: Sorption properties and mechanisms

Jiechen Ma et al.

Summary: The research explored the adsorption characteristics and mechanisms of copper and cadmium by lobster shell biochar. The main mechanisms included ion exchange, precipitation with minerals, and interaction with functional groups. The dominant mechanism for copper adsorption was ion exchange, while interaction with functional groups was the primary mechanism for cadmium adsorption. The adsorption capacity of lobster shell biochar was found to be higher than that of other reported biochars, indicating its effectiveness in removing Cu2+ and Cd2+ from contaminated water.
