A win-win strategy of β-cyclodextrin and ion-doped polypyrrole composite nanomaterials for asymmetric capacitive deionization

Yazhen Zhao et al.

Summary: The hollow carbon sphere coated with polypyrrole (HCS@PPy) was synthesized using beta-cyclodextrin as the precursor. The combination of HCS and ion-doped PPy effectively improves the electrochemical performance, with a larger specific surface area for enhanced adsorption capacity. Desalination tests show that the asymmetric cell exhibits a higher electrosorption capacity and charge efficiency compared to the symmetric cell, indicating the potential of ion-doped PPy for improving adsorption capacity and suppressing co-ion effects.

(Pd, Au, Ag) nanoparticles decorated well-ordered macroporous carbon for electrochemical sensing applications

Shuang Dong et al.

Summary: The research focuses on the development of high performance electrochemical sensors using biomass waste derived carbon materials, namely well-ordered macroporous carbon (OMC) and N-doped carbon thin layer (N-C) derived from Loofah sponge. The polydopamine-based method used in this study allows for the loading of noble metal NPs (Pd, Au and Ag) on the carbon materials, leading to excellent electrochemical sensing performances for various reactions such as H2O2 reduction, glucose oxidation and nitrite oxidation. This approach shows promise for a wide range of applications in electrochemical sensors and biosensors.
