Chain flexibility and glass transition temperatures of poly(n-alkyl (meth) acrylate)s: Implications of tacticity and chain dynamics

Tianyu Li et al.

Summary: The relationship between chain microstructure and glass transition temperature (T-g) is complex for poly(alkyl methacrylate)s and poly(alkyl acrylate)s. As the side chain length increases, chain flexibilities and T(g) decrease, reflecting increased hindrances to rotation about backbone bonds. The differences in T-g between poly(n-alkyl acrylate)s and poly(n-alkyl methacrylate)s may be attributed to their differences in tacticity.

A rhodamine-based chemosensor and functionalized gel ball for detecting and adsorbing copper ions

Liu Yang et al.

Summary: Developing sensitive colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensors for Cu2+ sensing has gained attention for their potential applications in clinical biochemistry and environmental studies. The novel rhodamine-based chemosensor NRG was constructed with high sensitivity, selectivity, and quick response to Cu2+, along with remarkable color and fluorescence changes. Moreover, NRG can effectively capture Cu2+ in aqueous solution and NRG-functionalized gel balls exhibited strong adsorbability and high adsorption capacity for Cu2+, with the ability to be recycled after treatment with an EDTA solution, making them a promising candidate for copper ion purification.

Effect of Alkyl Chain Length of N-Alkyl-N′-(2-benzylphenyl)ureas on Gelation

Tomoki Komiyama et al.

Summary: The molecular structure and alkyl chain length of urea derivatives affect their effectiveness as gelators, with urea derivatives containing long alkyl chains showing the best gelation effect in polar solvents, while those with short alkyl chains are more effective in non-polar solvents. Ionic liquids behave similarly to polar solvents, with urea derivatives containing long alkyl chains being the most effective gelators.

Discriminatory behavior of a rhodamine 6G decorated mesoporous silica based multiple cation sensor towards Cu2+ and Hg2+ vis-a-vis Al3+Cr3+ and Fe3+: selective removal of Cu2+ and Hg2+ from aqueous media

Debdas Singha et al.

Summary: Selective identification and removal of metal ions is possible with solid support anchoring of sensing units. R6FMS shows colorimetric and fluorescent detection capabilities for Al3+, Cr3+, Fe3+ and Cu2+ in ethanol, and for Cu2+ and Hg2+ in water. Cations induce the opening of spirolactam ring, leading to pink coloration and strong fluorescence.

The switchable phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence of a new rhodamine-like dye through allenylidene formation in a cyclometallated platinum(ii) system

Shunan Zhao et al.

Summary: A new Rhodyne ligand with chemo-induced ON-OFF switching capabilities was designed to coordinate a cyclometallated platinum(ii) system. The long-lived (IL)-I-3 excited state of Rhodyne in its ON state as an optically active opened form was revealed via steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy studies, showing exceptional near-infrared (NIR) phosphorescence and delayed fluorescence based on a rhodamine-like structure at room temperature. The position of the alkyne communication bridge attached to the platinum(ii) unit was found to vary the lead(ii)-ion binding mode and also the possible resonance structure for metal-mediated allenylidene formation, suggesting the formation of a proposed allenylidene resonance structure to rationalize these phenomena.
