Unveiling the two-proton halo character of 17Ne: Exclusive measurement of quasi-free proton-knockout reactions

C. Lehr et al.

Summary: The proton drip-line nucleus Ne-17 has been experimentally investigated to determine its two-proton halo character. The experimental results suggest that Ne-17 may only have a relatively modest halo character. The quantitative consistency between the theoretical calculations and experimental data, supported by the independence in distinguishing different knockout processes, provides valuable information on the contributions of valence-proton knockout and knockout from the O-15 core.

Quasifree Neutron Knockout Reaction Reveals a Small s-Orbital Component in the Borromean Nucleus 17B

Z. H. Yang et al.

Summary: A kinematically complete quasifree (p, pn) experiment in inverse kinematics was performed to study the structure of the Borromean nucleus B-17, revealing a definite but not dominant neutron halo. Our finding of a surprisingly small 1s(1/2) percentage and the explanation using the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum implies that the dominant occupation of s or p orbitals is not a prerequisite for the occurrence of a neutron halo.

Accurate Determination of the Neutron Skin Thickness of 208Pb through Parity-Violation in Electron Scattering

D. Adhikari et al.

Summary: The study reports a precise measurement of the parity-violating asymmetry A(pv) in elastic scattering of longitudinally polarized electrons from Pb-208, extracting key parameters such as neutron skin thickness and interior baryon density. This measurement accurately constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy of nuclear matter near saturation density, with implications for the size and composition of neutron stars.

Implications of PREX-2 on the Equation of State of Neutron-Rich Matter

Brendan T. Reed et al.

Summary: Laboratory experiments sensitive to the equation of state of neutron rich matter in the vicinity of nuclear saturation density provide crucial data connecting terrestrial experiments to astronomical observations. The neutron skin thickness of Pb-208 further constrains the density dependence of the symmetry energy. The impact of a stiff symmetry energy on critical neutron-star observables is studied.
