Thermoelectric Generation with Impinging Nano-Jets

Fatih Selimefendigil et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of nanofluid jets on thermoelectric generation, finding that increasing jet Reynolds numbers and nanoparticle volume fractions can enhance power and efficiency. The horizontal distance between the jet inlet and the thermoelectric device also affects power generation and conversion efficiency, with smaller distances resulting in higher power generation but the optimum value for efficiency being at zh = 2.5ws. Regression models are developed for predicting generated power and conversion efficiencies.

Energy performance investigation of nanofluid-based concentrated photovoltaic / thermal-thermoelectric generator hybrid system

Abdelhak Lekbir et al.

Summary: The study explored the use of nanofluid in a CPV/T solar collector to enhance electrical and thermal performance, and found that the nanofluid-based system outperformed traditional cooling methods. Specifically, the nanofluid-based NCPV/T-TEG configuration exhibited significantly higher electrical performance compared to standard PV modules, CPV/TEG, and WCPV/T-TEG configurations. Additionally, the NCPV/T-TEG system showed an overall thermal energy increase compared to the water-cooled system. The results suggest that the NCPV/T-TEG hybrid system has the potential for further development in high-concentration solar systems.

Summary: The study compared the performance of a traditional CPVT solar system with and without the addition of thermoelectric generator modules (TEG) using numerical simulations. The results showed that the CPVT system integrated with TEG showed improvements in electrical power generation during both summer and winter days, while reducing the thermal power output. Overall, integrating thermoelectric generator modules into the CPVT system showed better energy utilization in terms of both electricity and heat.

Fuel cells for carbon capture applications

Mohammad Ali Abdelkareem et al.

Summary: The harmful effect of carbon pollution leads to depletion of the ozone layer, and while progress is being made in developing different carbon dioxide capturing methods, they are still expensive and face technical challenges. Fuel cells are seen as an effective method for CO2 capturing and/or conversion, with solid oxide fuel cells, molten carbonate fuel cells, and microbial fuel cells showing promising results in this regard. High-temperature fuel cells such as SOFCs and MCFCs are effectively used for CO2 capturing, while algae-based microbial fuel cells capture and convert carbon dioxide through photosynthesis.

Environmental impacts of nanofluids: A review

Khaled Elsaid et al.

Summary: Nanofluids (NFs) are increasingly used as high-performance heat transfer fluids (HTF) for heating and cooling purposes due to their improved thermophysical properties compared to base fluids. The environmental impacts (EIs) of NFs depend significantly on the type of nanoparticle (NP) used, loading in base fluid (BF), and production methods. Using non-toxic naturally occurring NPs at lower loading in water as NF can promise lower EIs while maintaining high thermal performance.
