Scalarized non-topological neutron stars in multi-scalar Gauss-Bonnet gravity

Kalin Staykov et al.

Summary: In this paper, we construct novel non-topological, spontaneously scalarized neutron stars in multi-scalar Gauss-Bonnet gravity with maximally symmetric target space. The theory allows solutions with trivial scalar field for certain classes of coupling functions, which coincide with the general relativistic ones. However, within a certain range of parameters, these solutions lose stability and new branches of solutions with nontrivial scalar field bifurcate from the trivial branch.

Realistic neutron star models in f (T) gravity

Rui-Hui Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the effects of the f(T) modification on nonrotating neutron stars in f(T) gravity. The modification leads to a decrease in stellar mass compared to general relativity for positive alpha values, while negative alpha values result in neutron stars with a larger amount of matter. There is also an upper limit for the central density of neutron stars with alpha > 0, beyond which the density and pressure profiles undergo a phase transition, causing the numerical system to collapse. The obtained mass-radius relations of realistic neutron star models are subjected to constraints from observed pulsars and gravitational wave events.

Neutron stars in massive scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity: Spherical structure and time-independent perturbations

Rui Xu et al.

Summary: This study provides a detailed investigation on spontaneously scalarized neutron stars in scalar Gauss-Bonnet theories with a quadratic coupling function and a massive scalar field. The results show significant differences in tidal deformability compared to neutron stars in general relativity, breaking the universal relation between moment of inertia and tidal deformability. Future multimessenger observations can be compared with theoretical predictions to explore theories beyond general relativity.

Maximum baryon masses for static neutron stars in f(R) gravity

A. Astashenok et al.

Summary: This study investigates the upper mass limit predictions of baryonic mass for static neutron stars in the context of f (R) gravity, focusing on the R-2 gravity model. The results show that most equations of state studied have baryon masses near the lower limits of the mass gap region, with the highest maximum baryon mass found to be around 3 times the solar mass. The analysis suggests that the gravitational mass of static neutron stars cannot exceed three solar masses, while the lower mass limits of astrophysical black holes are likely to be in the range of 2.5-3 solar masses, supporting the claim that neutron stars cannot have gravitational masses larger than 3 solar masses in the context of R-2 gravity.

Neutron stars in f (R, Lm) gravity with realistic equations of state: joint-constrains with GW170817, massive pulsars, and the PSR J0030+0451 mass-radius from NICER data

R. Lobato et al.

Summary: In this study, neutron stars are investigated in f (R, Lm) theory of gravity with the specific case f (R, L-m) = R + L-m + sigma RLm, and the results show that this theory can accommodate massive pulsars and explain observed neutron stars within radius regions constrained by GW170817 and PSR J0030+0451 observations.

Neutron stars in f(R, T) gravity with conserved energy-momentum tensor: Hydrostatic equilibrium and asteroseismology

Summary: The equilibrium and radial stability of spherically symmetric relativistic stars are investigated within the framework of f(R, T) gravity, revealing the appearance of instability when the binding energy is at a minimum. The neutron star properties, such as radius, mass, binding energy and oscillation spectrum, are studied in detail.

2.6 M⊙ compact object and neutron stars in Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld theory of gravity

I Prasetyo et al.

Summary: The study explores the role of parameters kappa and Lambda(c) of the EiBI gravity theory in the mass-radius relation, moment of inertia, and tidal deformability of neutron stars. Results show that the mass of neutron stars significantly depends on kappa, while the radius is sensitive to the value of Lambda(c). The 2.6 solar mass compact object observed in the GW190814 event is unlikely to be a static neutron star within the EiBI gravity theory given the specific equation of state employed.

Summary: The study revealed that neutron stars (NSs) with larger radii and heavier masses in Ho.rava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity remain stable without collapsing into black holes, showing a deviation from general relativity (GR) can change the typical features of NS structure.
