The structural characterization and anticancer activity of a polysaccharide from Coriolus versicolor

Coriolus versicolor (in Chinese), also known as Yun Zhi, is a traditional Chinese medicine widely used as a functional food. In this study, a homogeneous polysaccharide, YZP-la, was isolated from C. versicolor and its structure was determined. YZP-la showed significant anticancer activity by inhibiting cell migration and inducing cell apoptosis.
Coriolus versicolor (in Chinese) is a traditional Chinese medicine and it has been widely applied as a functional food. In the current study, a homogeneous polysaccharide, YZP-la, was isolated from C. versicolor and its structure was investigated via FT-IR, GC-MS, NMR, SEM, and TEM studies. The backbone of YZP-1a comprised -> 6)-alpha-D-Glcp (1 -> 6)-alpha-D-Gallo-(1 -> 3)-beta-D-Galp-(1 -> 6)-beta-D-Glcp-(1 -> 4)-alpha-D-Galp-(1 -> 4)-alpha-D-Galp-(1 -> 4)-alpha-D-Glcp-(1 ->). Linked with the O-6 and O-4 positions of (-> 4,6)-alpha-D-Glcp-(1 ->) of the main chain are branches (-> 1)-beta-DGalp-(3 -> 1)-alpha-D-Glcp and (-> 1)-alpha-D-Galp-(4 -> 1)-alpha-D-Galp-(4 -> 1)-alpha-D-Gallo (4 -> 1)-beta-D-Glcp (6 -> 1)-beta-D-Galp (3 -> 1)-alpha-D-Galp-(3 -> 1)-beta-D-Glcp-(6 -> 1)-beta-D-Galp (3 -> 1)-alpha-D-Gacp, respectively. Linked with the O-6 and O-3 positions of (-> 3,6)-alpha-D-Galp-(1 ->) of the main chain are branches alpha-D-Glcp-(1 -> and -> 1)-beta-D-Glcp-(6 -> 1)-alpha-D-Glcp, respectively. YZP-la showed significant anticancer activity via inhibiting cell migration and inducing cell apoptosis.
