Optimization of Reclosers Placement in Distribution Networks to Improve Service Quality Indices

G. A. Gastelbondo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a methodology for optimizing the placement of reclosers in power distribution networks to improve service quality indices. A mathematical model of Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming (MINLP) is used with the objective of minimizing the SAIDI or SAIFI indices. The effectiveness of the approach is evaluated on a test system and a real distribution system.

Investment & generation costs vs CO2 emissions in the distribution system expansion planning: A multi-objective stochastic programming approach

Tayenne Dias de Lima et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a multi-objective approach based on Stochastic Programming for Distribution System Expansion Planning (DSEP) to minimize investment & generation costs and CO2 emissions by modeling uncertainties through mixed-integer linear programming. Tests on a 54-node distribution system show that considering CO2 emissions in robust expansion plans leads to larger penetration of renewable resources and offers a trade-off between cost and emission objectives for expansion planners to make informed decisions based on specific needs.

Optimal Placement of Reclosers in a Radial Distribution System for Reliability Improvement

Afroz Alam et al.

Summary: The optimal placement of protective devices in a distribution system, particularly reclosers, can greatly improve reliability indices and maximize utility profit. This study proposes a new bidirectional formulation for the optimized arrangement of reclosers, which efficiently handles bidirectional power flow from distributed generation units. By utilizing the Genetic algorithm optimization method, it was found that optimal placement of reclosers significantly contributes towards utility profit with minimal investment and outage costs.

Estimating storage needs for renewables in Europe: The correlation between renewable energy sources and heating and cooling demand

Jasmine Ramsebner et al.

Summary: Solar irradiance and wind speed play important roles in a CO2 neutral energy system. Solar irradiance shows a strong correlation with cooling degree hours, especially in Spanish locations, while the relationship between wind speed and heating demand is more complex. Smart energy systems should consider the positive correlation between solar irradiance and cooling demand, and utilize wind power efficiently for heating and cooling needs.
