Consistency of Planck, ACT, and SPT constraints on magnetically assisted recombination and forecasts for future experiments

Summary: This study investigates the constraints on the clumping factor parameter b in a simplistic model using the latest CMB data. The analysis shows that primordial magnetic fields can change the recombination history of the Universe, but there is currently insufficient evidence to determine if clumping is different from zero. The study also finds that ACT has stronger constraining power compared to SPT-3G, and there is some inconsistency between ACT, Planck, and SPT-3G results. Combining CMB data with other datasets provides an upper limit for b, and adding a prior on the Hubble constant gives additional constraints.

Small-scale clumping at recombination and the Hubble tension

Summary: Recent data improvements have led to tensions between low-and high-redshift observables, particularly in determinations of the Hubble constant H-0 and the (rescaled) clustering amplitude S-8. Study shows that small-scale baryon inhomogeneities can affect recombination and potentially alleviate tensions between H-0 and S-8. However, current data suggest that clumping parameters altering the CMB sound horizon may not be favored by Planck 2018 data.
