Brake Light Detection Algorithm for Predictive Braking

Summary: There has been an increase in partially automated systems in passenger vehicles, which calls for a focus on the impact of these systems on passenger comfort and trust. This paper proposes a novel brake light detection algorithm that uses a camera and object detector to detect the bounding boxes of vehicles ahead. The algorithm achieves high accuracy and can reliably detect lit brake lights even up to a distance of 150 m.
