Effect of Bi2WO6 nanoflowers on the U(VI) removal from water: Roles of adsorption and photoreduction

Xin Zhong et al.

Summary: In this study, hierarchical hollow-spherical bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) was prepared and characterized for its adsorption and photocatalytic reduction performance towards U(VI). The results showed that Bi2WO6 efficiently removed U(VI) under visible-light irradiation, making it a promising candidate for radioactive wastewater treatment.

Iodine doped Z-scheme Bi2O2CO3/Bi2WO6 photocatalysts: Facile synthesis, efficient visible light photocatalysis, and photocatalytic mechanism

Zhuomin Qiang et al.

Summary: The study successfully developed a novel iodine-doped Bi2O2CO3/Bi2WO6 heterojunction photocatalyst, which showed significantly enhanced visible light photocatalytic H-2 production rate and capability for persistent pollutant and dye degradation. Through electrochemical and spectroscopic tests, the enhanced photocatalytic activity was attributed to the formation of the Z-scheme photocatalyst.

Facile synthesis of CeO2/carbonate doped Bi2O2CO3 Z-scheme heterojunction for improved visible-light photocatalytic performance: Photodegradation of tetracycline and photocatalytic mechanism

Cui Lai et al.

Summary: CeO2 nanoparticles were successfully loaded on carbonate doped Bi2O2CO3 (CBOC) nanosheets, forming a CeO2/CBOC heterojunction with significantly enhanced photocatalytic activity. The Z-scheme electron transfer mechanism and the Ce4+/Ce3+ redox pairs formed at the contact interface between CeO2 and CBOC were found to play critical roles in enhancing photocatalytic activity.

Humidity-Independent Photocatalytic Toluene Mineralization Benefits from the Utilization of Edge Hydroxyls in Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs): A Combined Operando and Theoretical Investigation

Xing'an Dong et al.

Summary: A composite structure of TiO2/Mg-Al layered double hydroxides (LDHs) with unique humidity-independent photocatalytic activity was constructed in this study, showing high efficiency in degrading volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under various humidity levels. In situ attenuated total reflection (ATR) Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy revealed that water vapor can promote the generation of hydroxyl radicals to participate in the photocatalytic degradation process.

Recent advances on Bi2WO6-based photocatalysts for environmental and energy applications

Tong Chen et al.

Summary: Bismuth tungstate (Bi2WO6) has attracted research attention for its potential in photocatalytic energy conversion and environmental purification, but its limited light absorption and fast recombination of photogenerated carriers hinder further improvement of its photocatalytic performance. Recent advances in Bi2WO6-based photocatalysts focus on crystal structure, optical properties, and photocatalytic fundamentals, as well as modification strategies for diverse applications like organic synthesis, water splitting, etc. Challenges and future prospects in this field are also discussed for the development of efficient Bi2WO6 photocatalysts.

Degradation behavior of mixed and isolated aromatic ring containing VOCs: Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics, photodegradation, in-situ FTIR and DFT studies

Asad Mahmood et al.

Summary: The study found that the degradation of VOCs in mixed mode is significantly influenced by the presence of different organic pollutants, with benzene showing lower degradation efficiency under mixed conditions mainly due to the presence of p-xylene. The presence of oxygen vacancy on TiO2 surface greatly improved the overall adsorption of VOCs.
