Atomically Precise Alkynyl- and Halide-Protected AuAg Nanoclusters Au78Ag66(CCPh)48Cl8 and Au74Ag60(CCPh)40Br12: The Ligation Effects of Halides

Xiting Yuan et al.

Summary: The synthesis and structures of two high-nuclearity AuAg nanoclusters, [Au78Ag66(C CPh)48Cl-8](q-) and [Au74Ag60(C CPh)40Br-12](2-), were reported. Both clusters possess a three-concentric-shell structure, with distinct arrangements of metal atoms and ligands in the outermost shells. Density functional theory analysis revealed superatomic electron shell closings at magic numbers, consistent with their spherical shapes. These clusters also exhibit unusual multivalent redox properties.

Ligand Effects on the Structures of [Au23L6(CCPh)9]2+ ( L = N-Heterocyclic Carbene vs Phosphine) with Au17 Superatomic Cores

Koto Hirano et al.

Summary: A new gold cluster compound Au23NHCptol was synthesized and compared with a known phosphine-protected analogue Au23PPh3. Both clusters have a similar structural motif with some noticeable geometric differences, and also exhibit slight differences in their electronic structures.

Tuning the Magic Sizes and Optical Properties of Atomically Precise Bidentate N-Heterocyclic Carbene-Protected Gold Nanoclusters via Subtle Change of N-Substituents

Peng Luo et al.

Summary: The study describes a series of bis-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-protected gold nanoclusters obtained from direct reduction of Au-bis-NHC complexes. The composition and structures of these clusters are unequivocally determined by single crystal X-ray crystallography and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The Au-13 cluster exhibits high emission in solution and the luminescence properties are severely dependent on the substituent effects.

The doping engineering and crystal structure of rod-like Au8Ag17 nanoclusters

Xinzhang Lin et al.

Summary: Alloy nanoclusters protected by ligands were synthesized, and the Au8Ag17 nanoclusters with precise crystal structure were obtained, composed of two Au4Ag9 icosahedrons connected by sharing atoms. Various Cl-Ag connecting modes were observed, and prominent absorption peaks were found at around 395 and 483 nm in the UV-visible absorption spectrum. This work provides a feasible strategy for synthesizing alloy nanoclusters with precise composition through doping engineering.
