Evaluation of wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) salt stress tolerance using physiological parameters and retrotransposon-based markers

Marwa M. Ghonaim et al.

Summary: The study showed that salt stress had significant impacts on the morphological and physiological traits of wheat, with certain genotypes exhibiting salt tolerance. Total phenol, total flavonoid, and antioxidant activity in wheat shoots significantly increased under salt stress, and seed protein SDS-PAGE revealed high genetic variability. Fingerprinting of the wheat genotypes using molecular markers correlated with salt tolerance was successful.

Comparative Effectiveness of Potential Elicitors of Soybean Plant Resistance Against Spodoptera Littoralis and Their Effects on Secondary Metabolites and Antioxidant Defense System

Heba I. Mohamed et al.

Summary: The cotton leaf worm is a destructive agricultural pest in Egypt, and chemical pesticides have led to environmental pollution. Six soybean genotypes were studied under natural infection with the pest, and treatment with methyl jasmonate and sodium nitroprusside was found to enhance resistance and increase secondary metabolites and antioxidants in the plants. MeJA was more effective than SNP in enhancing the resistance of susceptible genotypes.

Molecular Characterization of the Alfalfa mosaic virus Infecting Solanum melongena in Egypt and the Control of Its Deleterious Effects with Melatonin and Salicylic Acid

Ahmed R. Sofy et al.

Summary: Distinct virus-like symptoms in naturally infected eggplants in the Kafr El-Sheikh Governorate in Egypt were suspected to be caused by the Alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV). Six out of 40 symptomatic leaf samples tested positive for AMV, while no AMV was found in the 10 leaf samples without symptoms. Using melatonin and salicylic acid increased the resistance of eggplants to AMV infection and reduced oxidative damage.

Comparative Cultivation and Biochemical Analysis of Iceberg Lettuce Grown in Sand Soil and Hydroponics With or Without Microbubbles and Macrobubbles

Mahmoud S. Abu-Shahba et al.

Summary: The study compared the differences in growth parameters of lettuce plants in hydroponic systems and conventional soil, finding that plants in the hydroponic system with microbubbles exhibited better morphological characteristics, chlorophyll content, and antioxidant capacity. Overall, plants in the hydroponic system consumed less water than those in sandy soil, showing higher growth efficiency and yield.
