Marine phytoplankton responses to oil and dispersant exposures: Knowledge gained since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill

Antonietta Quigg et al.

Summary: The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 raised concerns about the ecology and health of the Gulf of Mexico, with research focusing on the impact of oil and dispersants on phytoplankton to assess perturbations in the region.

Sulfitobacter alexandrii sp. nov., a new microalgae growth-promoting bacterium with exopolysaccharides bioflocculanting potential isolated from marine phycosphere

Qiao Yang et al.

Summary: This study isolated a novel bacterium strain with significant bioactivity and potential to promote microalgae growth from marine dinoflagellate PM. Analysis of its genetic sequences and metabolic characteristics revealed that this bacterium belongs to a new species of the genus Sulfitobacter. The new strain was named Sulfitobacter alexandrii sp. nov. based on polyphasic characterizations.
