In Situ Characterization of Over-Lithiation of Organosulfide-Based Lithium Metal Anodes

Zhipeng Jiang et al.

Summary: Over-lithiated organosulfides such as sulfurized polyacrylonitrile (SPAN) are promising candidates for protecting lithium metal anodes by forming robust solid electrolyte interphases (SEIs). The mechanism of over-lithiation in SPAN involves breaking the C-S bond and forming the C-Li bond, which triggers the decomposition of the electrolyte to form an inorganic-organic hybrid SEI on the surface, improving the cycle stability of lithium metal anodes. This study provides new insights into the over-lithiation mechanism of SPAN for designing stable lithium metal anodes.
