Highly efficient removal of DEET by UV-LED irradiation in the presence of iron-containing coagulant

Anhong Cai et al.

Summary: In this study, the combined use of UV-LED275 and FeCl3 was found to be effective in eliminating DEET in water, with the UVLED275/FeCl3 system showing the best removal efficiency at initial pH 3.5. DEET degradation followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals playing a major role in the process. Increasing FeCl3 dosage was beneficial to degradation, and the process was pH-dependent, with degradation increasing at lower pH levels and being suppressed at higher pH levels. Various factors such as NO3-, humic acid, HCO3-, and SO42- had different effects on DEET degradation.

Treatment of pyridine in industrial liquid waste by atmospheric DC water plasma

Chengyuan Duan et al.

Summary: The translation discusses the experimental results and decomposition mechanism of highly-concentrated pyridine treatment using a novel mist-type water thermal plasma torch. The results show efficient decomposition of pyridine, producing valuable gas products and a small amount of liquid by-products. Water plasma demonstrates significant potential in treating non-biodegradable industrial liquid waste.

Identification of indicator PPCPs in landfill leachates and livestock wastewaters using multi-residue analysis of 70 PPCPs: Analytical method development and application in Yangtze River Delta, China

Dongquan Wu et al.

Summary: The study developed a method for analyzing a wide spectrum of PPCPs in landfill leachates and livestock wastewaters, identifying potential i-PPCP candidates. Some non-antibiotic PPCPs were investigated for the first time in livestock wastewaters in China, highlighting the need for including representative non-antibiotic PPCPs in studies of emerging contaminants.

Understanding the occurrence and distribution of emerging pollutants and endocrine disruptors in sensitive coastal South Florida Ecosystems

Brian Ng et al.

Summary: The study highlights the potential risks of environmental exposure to various xenobiotics in South Florida surface waters, which could impact the endocrine systems of aquatic species and humans. Research in this region has mainly focused on inorganic pollutants, heavy metals, and pesticides, leaving a significant gap in understanding the occurrence, distribution, and biological significance of human-related organic contaminants in natural surface waters.

Arc Behavior and Temperature Distribution in Water Thermal Plasma with Mist Generation

Soon Ho Kim et al.

Summary: This study investigates arc behavior and temperature distribution in a water plasma with mist generation, finding that an increase in mist feeding rate leads to higher arc frequency and length, as well as increased arc existence probability. The mist feeding rate plays a crucial role in controlling the high-temperature arc area.
