Exploring the potential of group III salen complexes for the conversion of CO2 under ambient conditions

Vatcharaporn Aomchad et al.

Summary: Rare-earth-based complexes were developed and applied as homogeneous Lewis acid catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO2 and epoxides, achieving high turnovers over 100 under ambient conditions. DFT calculations and advanced buried volume calculations provided insights into the activity differences between complexes, with yttrium and scandium-based salen species exhibiting milder reaction barriers.

Review on the Use of Heavy Metal Deposits from Water Treatment Waste towards Catalytic Chemical Syntheses

Tushar Kanti Das et al.

Summary: Accumulation of heavy metals in wastewater has become a serious problem for humans. Recent research trends focus not only on the removal efficiency of toxic metal particles, but also on their effective reuse as catalysts. This review discusses the recovery of heavy metals from wastewater, advantages of new capturing systems, and mechanisms for immobilization and rejuvenation of catalysts.

Towards mild conditions by predictive catalysis via sterics in the Ru-catalyzed hydrogenation of thioesters

Michele Tomasini et al.

Summary: The discovery of direct hydrogenation of thioesters to thiols and alcohols catalyzed by a Ru-acridine complex has been studied through DFT calculations to understand different performance based on the nature of substituents. Unveiling the reaction mechanism provides a deeper understanding of the steric and electronic properties affecting the limiting step of the reaction. Tools such as steric maps and Conceptual DFT have been used to rationalize reactivity patterns, while studying the catalyst's nature and substituents on phosphorous atoms aims to achieve milder reaction conditions.

Cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides by highly nucleophilic 4-aminopyridines: establishing a relationship between carbon basicity and catalytic performance by experimental and DFT investigations

Wuttichai Natongchai et al.

Summary: The study discovered that highly nucleophilic 3,4-diaminopyridines can serve as effective catalysts for the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides, enhancing catalytic activity and promoting crucial reaction steps. Additionally, the research also demonstrated that the nucleophilic scaffold of 3,4-diaminopyridines can be used as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst supported on polystyrene.
