Implementing encoding with quantum oscillators such as GKP codes allows for correction of small displacement errors with a single physical entity. By introducing a dissipative map designed for finite GKP codes and demonstrating an extension in coherence time using both square and hexagonal GKP codes, the lifetime of qubits encoded in the motion of a trapped ion has been extended.
