Origin, distribution and implications on production of bedding-parallel fractures: A case study from the Carboniferous KT-I Formation in the NT oilfield, Precaspian Basin, Kazakhstan

Changhai Li et al.

Summary: Bedding-parallel fractures (BPFs) are rock breakages along weakness bedding plane of stratification or foliation. The research focused on the formation mechanism, distribution, and influences on oil production of BPFs in carbonate reservoirs. Various factors govern the development of BPFs, including structural position, rock composition and structure, distance to faults, and bed thickness.

A review of pressure transient analysis in reservoirs with natural fractures, vugs and/or caves

Isah Mohammed et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the pressure transient analysis of flow in reservoirs with natural fractures, vugs, and/or caves, highlighting both the knowledge acquired and the areas still open for further research. Pressure transient analysis provides valuable information for understanding reservoir dynamics and complex pressure-dependant variations. However, limitations exist in applying these techniques to naturally fractured and vuggy reservoirs.

Geological-petrophysical insights in the deep Cambrian dolostone reservoirs in Tarim Basin, China

Jin Lai et al.

Summary: The occurrence and petrology of dolomites, along with their pore systems in the Cambrian of Tarim Basin, China, were documented through the integration of cores, thin sections, and cathodoluminescence analysis. Six types of dolomite were identified, with various pore systems dominating the reservoir types. Fractures were found to enhance reservoir quality in dolostone reservoirs.

Experimental investigation on gas permeability in bedding shale with brittle and semi-brittle deformations under triaxial compression

Mingliang Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the stress-strain behavior, failure deformation, and gas permeability changes in shale under compressive stress induced failure. The results showed that shale exhibits brittle or semi-brittle responses to peak strength load at different angles of pre-existing bedding, and the gas permeability increased after failure deformation. The pre-existing structure of shale influences its mechanical behavior and gas permeability, which is significant for shale gas exploration and development in areas with complex tectonic structures.

Fracture characterization and detection in the deep Cambrian dolostones in the Tarim Basin, China: Insights from borehole image and sonic logs

Jin Lai et al.

Summary: Characterization and detection of natural fractures in ancient deeply buried dolostones with low matrix porosity are challenging. The study identified natural fractures with various attributes and orientations using core description, thin section analysis, conventional well logs, borehole image, and sonic logs.
