Dynamic bulk-boundary correspondence for anomalous Floquet topology

Dinh Duy Vu

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the first and inversion-symmetric second-order anomalous Floquet topology (AFT) bulk-boundary correspondence for Altland-Zirnbauer (AZ) classes BDI, D, DIII, and AII. By analyzing the Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence of the parent and descendants, we identify the subspace that contains topological information.

Evidence for a higher-order topological insulator in a three-dimensional material built from van der Waals stacking of bismuth-halide chains

Ryo Noguchi et al.

Summary: Research on topological quantum materials with van der Waals structures is gaining attention, showing that a slight modification of stacking can induce a transition from trivial insulator to higher-order topological insulator. This opens doors for engineering topologically non-trivial edge states for future spintronics applications.

Dynamical symmetry indicators for Floquet crystals

Jiabin Yu et al.

Summary: A general theory for Floquet topology applicable to all crystalline symmetry groups is still needed, and in this work, the authors propose such a theory for effectively non-interacting Floquet crystals. They predict various nontrivial classifications of anomalous Floquet topological phases and identify a new 3+1D anomalous Floquet second-order topological insulator phase with anomalous chiral hinge modes.

Anomalous Floquet Chiral Topological Superconductivity in a Topological Insulator Sandwich Structure

Rui-Xing Zhang et al.

Summary: Floquet chiral topological superconductivity naturally arises in Josephson junctions made of magnetic topological insulator-superconductor sandwich structures. Applying a bias voltage across the junction drives the system into an anomalous Floquet chiral topological superconductor with chiral Majorana edge modes in the quasienergy spectrum. The bias voltage serves as a tuning parameter enabling novel Floquet topological quantum phase transitions leading to exotic Majorana-carrying Floquet topological superconducting phases.

Hierarchy of higher-order topological superconductors in three dimensions

Arnob Kumar Ghosh et al.

Summary: By introducing different types of perturbations in a three-dimensional model, a hierarchy of higher-order topological superconductor phases supporting Majorana hinge modes and Majorana corner modes can be realized. In practice, these higher-order modes exhibit specific transport signatures, and the manipulation of the number of different modes is possible by introducing bulk magnetic field.

Disorder and phase diagrams of higher-order topological insulators

Yu-Song Hu et al.

Summary: In this study, the disorder and phase diagrams of two-dimensional higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs) were investigated. The existence of mobility gaps and the protection of corner states by mobility gap were demonstrated in the bulk-corner correspondence case. A rich phase diagram including various disorder-induced phase transition processes was obtained, with a notable disorder-induced transition from nontrivial to trivial phase distinguishing HOTIs from other topological states. These results deepen the understanding of the topological features and related phase transitions of disordered HOTIs.

Hierarchy of higher-order Floquet topological phases in three dimensions

Tanay Nag et al.

Summary: In this study, a hierarchy of higher-order Floquet topological phases in three dimensions is constructed by periodically driving static first-order topological phases with suitable discrete symmetry breaking Wilson-Dirac masses. Realizations of second-order and third-order Floquet topological states, supporting dynamic hinge and corner modes, respectively, are demonstrated by introducing one and two discrete symmetry breaking Wilson-Dirac mass(es). The resulting dynamic hinge and corner modes, protected by antiunitary spectral or particle-hole symmetries, live on boundaries with different codimensions.

Tunable fragile topology in Floquet systems

Rui-Xing Zhang et al.

Summary: The paper extends the concept of fragile topology to periodically driven systems and demonstrates driving-induced fragile topology in two different models. A rich phase diagram including Floquet fragile topological phases, Floquet Chern insulators, and trivial atomic phases is discovered, with transitions between different phases achieved by tuning the driving amplitudes. Corner-localized fractional charges are identified as a smoking-gun signal of fragile topology in the systems, paving the way for studying and realizing fragile topology in Floquet systems.

Summary: We theoretically investigate the Floquet generation of second-order topological superconducting phase in both 2D and 3D high-temperature platforms, revealing a transition between weak and strong SOTSC phases. Floquet generation of a second-order topological superconductor

Summary: Theoretical investigation on Floquet generation of second-order topological superconducting phase with Majorana corner modes in a quantum spin Hall insulator with induced superconducting s-wave pairing. Different driving protocols lead to different strength of topological phases with specific characteristics for characterization. The schemes may be tested in the future with recent experimental advances in driven systems and proximity - superconductivity.

Higher-order topological Anderson insulators

Yan-Bin Yang et al.

Summary: Disorder effects in a two-dimensional system with chiral symmetry can induce a quadrupole topological insulating phase, with topological properties defined by effective boundary Hamiltonians, the quadrupole moment, and zero-energy corner modes. The study also reveals gapped and gapless topological phases, as well as a Griffiths regime, where states at zero energy become multifractal. The self-consistent Born approximation is applied to show that the induced topological phase arises from disorder-renormalized masses.

Floquet higher-order topological insulator in a periodically driven bipartite lattice

Weiwei Zhu et al.

Summary: Floquet higher-order topological insulators (FHOTIs) are a novel topological phase that can occur in periodically driven lattices. An experimentally realistic bipartite system can host FHOTI phases and exhibit interesting phase transitions without breaking lattice symmetry. In the FHOTI phase, the lattice features corner modes at specific eigenphases that are robust against disorder.
