Gravity-driven layered double hydroxide nanosheet membrane activated peroxymonosulfate system for micropollutant degradation

Muhammad Bilal Asif et al.

Summary: A CoAl-layered double hydroxide nanosheet membrane (LDHm) with abundant active sites was fabricated for catalytically degrading micropollutants, achieving high removal efficiency. The LDHm/PMS system showed excellent performance in degrading various micropollutants and was not inhibited by changes in solution pH during long-term operation. Reactive species, such as SO4 center dot- and O-1(2), were identified in the LDHm/PMS system, with both =Co and =Al participating in PMS activation.

Honeycomb-like holey Co3O4 membrane triggered peroxymonosulfate activation for rapid degradation of organic contaminants

Zheng Wang et al.

Summary: A 2D honeycomb-like holey membrane assembled by Co3O4 nanosheets has been found to be an excellent activator for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) and aids in rapid pollutant removal. This membrane achieves high degradation rates and maintains efficient degradation under continuous flow conditions. The findings of this study provide guidance for the design of other efficient heterogeneous catalytic systems and present a novel approach to overcoming the limitations of conventional catalysis.

Ultrahigh-permeance functionalized boron nitride membrane for nanoconfined heterogeneous catalysis

Muhammad Bilal Asif et al.

Summary: This study introduces the application of functionalized boron nitride nanosheet membranes with cobalt nanocatalysts for the efficient degradation of organic pollutants through rapid mass transfer. The membrane-confined catalysis system showed good stability and high permeance, outperforming previously developed systems. The Co-BNNS membrane enables ultrafast destruction of multiple organic pollutants, offering an attractive alternative for membrane-based catalysis applications.

Summary: This study demonstrates a strategy to regulate the generation of reactive oxygen species by atomically dispersed cobalt anchored on nitrogen-doped carbon, with singlet oxygen being the predominant reactive oxygen species. The generated singlet oxygen is capable of degrading various organic pollutants efficiently across a broad pH range, providing new theoretical support for the singlet oxygen generation mechanism in peroxymonosulfate activation.

Fabricating yolk-shell structured CoTiO3@Co3O4 nanoreactor via a simple self-template method toward high-performance peroxymonosulfate activation and organic pollutant degradation

Haitao Li et al.

Summary: The novel yolk-shell structured CoTiO3@Co3O4 nanoreactor exhibited high efficiency for PMS activation and showed low cobalt leaching while maintaining almost unchanged catalytic activity in cyclic degradation processes. The possible catalytic mechanism was proposed based on ESR analysis and quenching experiments, and the mineralization degree in the degradation process was found to be 79.5% via TOC analysis. LC/MS was employed to identify intermediates and the corresponding degradation pathway was elucidated, demonstrating that the CoTiO3@Co3O4 nanoreactor was highly efficient in activating PMS for degradation of various recalcitrant organic pollutants.

Summary: The UV/chloramine process can effectively degrade RAN, with HO· being the main radical involved in degradation and RNS also contributing to the process. However, the degradation of RAN in the UV/chloramine process can be inhibited by increasing concentrations of HCO3-, Cl-, and NO3-, chloramine dosage, solution pH, and natural organic matter.

Rapid and long-lasting acceleration of zero-valent iron nanoparticles@Ti3C2-based MXene/peroxymonosulfate oxidation with bi-active centers toward ranitidine removal

Yiyang Ma et al.

Summary: Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were used to degrade ranitidine, a precursor of nitrosamine dimethylamine (NDMA), using novel magnetic Ti3C2-based MXene nanosheets decorated with nanoscale zero-valent iron particles (nZVIPs@Ti3C2 nanosheets). The reaction was driven by catalytic peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation, with response surface methodology (RSM) confirming the importance of solution pH and PMS dosage. The catalytic activity was attributed to charge transfer between active centers, and Density functional theory (DFT) calculations supported the bi-active centers for PMS activation and thermodynamically favorable reactions.
