Reevaluation of Cr6+ optical transitions through Gd2O3 doping of chromium-borate glasses

H. Y. Morshidy et al.

Summary: Chromium-doped borate glasses with gadolinium oxide additives were studied for their optical properties, revealing detachment of UV optical transitions and increased band gap energy. The compactness of the glassy network was enforced by the Gd2O3 additives, leading to blue shifts and high-energy optical transitions suitable for UV optics. The structural changes and enhanced properties indicate potential applications in UV optics such as digital photography and insect light traps.

A single luminescence center ultra-broadband near-infrared LiScGeO4:Cr phosphor for biological tissue penetration

Zejun Ye et al.

Summary: An ultra-broadband emission phosphor LiScGeO4:Cr was synthesized for near-infrared pc-LEDs, covering the entire NIR-II window. The broadband emission is attributed to the T-4(2) -> (4)A(2) transition of the Cr3+ ion caused by the olivine crystal structure. NIR pc-LEDs fabricated with this phosphor can penetrate 4 cm thick beef, suggesting potential applications in biological tissue penetration and non-destructive testing.
