Spatial structure of unstable normal modes in a glass-forming liquid

Masanari Shimada et al.

Summary: The study investigates the potential energy surface of a glass-forming ternary mixture and reveals the transition of unstable modes from delocalized to localized around the mode-coupling temperature, highlighting the association with spatial structure. The results show that localized modes are characterized by distinct core structures and rapidly decaying far fields, offering insights into the nature of unstable modes in glass-forming liquids.

Fast dynamics in a model metallic glass-forming material

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the fast beta- and Johari-Goldstein relaxation processes, along with the elastic scattering response of glass-forming liquids and the boson peak. These processes are found to be universal, even in glass-forming liquids with a fragile-strong transition. Heating leads to the growth of stringlets, resulting in an increase in relaxation process intensity and excitation softening.

Universal Density of Low-Frequency States in Amorphous Solids at Finite Temperatures

Prasenjit Das et al.

Summary: It has been established that low frequency quasilocalized modes of amorphous solids at zero temperature exhibit universal density of states, possibly extending to finite temperatures. Research shows that well quenched model glasses at temperatures as high as T-g/3 possess the same universal density of states, as long as average particle positions stabilize before thermal diffusion destroys the cage structure of the material. The universal density of quasilocalized low frequency modes refers to vibrations around the thermally averaged configuration of the material.
