Magnetic Nanoparticles Based Solid Phase Extraction Methods for the Determination of Trace Elements

Elif Ozturk Er et al.

Summary: Significant advancements in instrumental detection techniques have been made in the past three decades, leading to more accurate measurements of organic and inorganic analytes. The importance of sample preparation before instrumental reading cannot be underestimated, and solid phase extraction (SPE) and solid phase microextraction (SPME) have emerged as efficient methods for clean-up and preconcentration. Magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) have become ideal materials for analyte extraction due to their small size and easy manipulation under a magnetic field. This review focuses on the principles of SPE and SPME, and highlights the different types of MNPs that have been used for separation and preconcentration. The application of MNPs in the determination of trace elements in environmental, biological, and food samples is also discussed.

Chitosan-Graphene Oxide Composite Membranes for Solid-Phase Extraction of Pesticides

Ilaria Silvestro et al.

Summary: Solid-phase extraction coupled with LC/MS/MS analysis is an effective method for determining organic micropollutants in liquid samples. The use of innovative sorbent materials such as graphene oxide and polysaccharides has shown promise in achieving higher efficiency in isolating and preconcentrating different hydrophilic/hydrophobic pollutants. The prepared chitosan-graphene oxide composite membranes with improved dimensional stability in water, along with the presence of high GO content, exhibited better efficacy in removing various pollutants compared to membranes based solely on chitosan.
