Synthesis and Characterization of Two Uranyl-Aryl Ate Complexes

Osvaldo Ordonez et al.

Summary: The reaction between [UO2Cl2(THF)3] and 3 equivalents of LiC6Cl5 in Et2O produced the first uranyl aryl complex [Li(Et2O)2(THF)][UO2(C6Cl5)3] ([Li][1]), followed by the conversion into [Li(THF)4][UO2(C6Cl5)3(THF)] ([Li][2]) with good yields. DFT calculations showed appreciable covalency in the U-C bonds of [Li][1] and [Li][2], while the C-13 NMR chemical shifts were strongly affected by spin-orbit coupling due to the participation of 5f orbitals in the U-C bonds.

Synthesis of Parent Acetylide and Dicarbide Complexes of Thorium and Uranium and an Examination of Their Electronic Structures

Greggory T. Kent et al.

Summary: The experiments described above demonstrate the formation of various complexes of An elements (Uranium and Thorium) with different reagents, showing different yields and structures. Some complexes can form different compounds via thermolysis. In addition, the C-13 NMR chemical shifts and magnetism measurements provide useful information for analyzing the structures and properties of the complexes.

Isolation and characterization of a covalent CeIV- Aryl complex with an anomalous 13C chemical shift

Grace B. Panetti et al.

Summary: The synthesis of organometallic Ce-IV complexes presents a significant challenge due to the oxidizing properties of the Ce-IV cation and the reducing tendencies of carbanions. This study reports on compounds with Ce-IV - C-aryl bonds, showing distinct bond lengths and NMR resonances. Computational analyses reveal the contribution of Ce to the bond, as well as the influence of spin-orbit coupling on chemical shifts.

Homoleptic Perchlorophenyl Ate Complexes of Thorium(IV) and Uranium(IV)

Osvaldo Ordonez et al.

Summary: The study revealed differences in the An-C-ipso σ bonds between thorium and uranium aryl ate complexes, with the uranium complexes exhibiting more covalent character. Furthermore, experimental and computational results showed that the involvement of 5f orbitals in Th-C bonds led to approximately 29 ppm deshielding effects originating from spin-orbit coupling.
