Parylene C-Based, Breathable Tattoo Electrodes for High-Quality Bio-Potential Measurements

Andrea Spanu et al.

Summary: A breathable tattoo electrode based on Parylene C nanofilm is proposed for bio-potential recording, showing comparable performance to conventional disposable gelled Ag/AgCl electrodes in electrocardiography measurements with no visible negative effects on the skin. This introduces interesting perspectives in the field of epidermal electronics, particularly in applications involving critical on-body measurements.

Toward the Use of Temporary Tattoo Electrodes for Impedancemetric Respiration Monitoring and Other Electrophysiological Recordings on Skin

Silvia Taccola et al.

Summary: The development of dry, ultra-conformable and unperceivable temporary tattoo electrodes for electrophysiological recordings on skin has gained attention. A new design using soft screen printed Ag ink and magnetic interlink ensures stable and repositionable connection of TTEs with external devices. This technology is suitable for large-scale production and real-time monitoring of different bio-electric signals.

Transparent, Compliant 3D Mesostructures for Precise Evaluation of Mechanical Characteristics of Organoids

Hanjun Ryu et al.

Summary: New methods for transforming 2D patterns of thin-film materials into 3D mesostructures have opened up opportunities in microsystems design, particularly in the area of multifunctional interfaces to biological tissues. Examples of 3D mechanical interfaces using parylene-C ribbons were presented, along with computational tools for designing shape-matching architectures tailored to organoids of interest. Studies using nanoindentation on cerebral organoids showed effective Young's moduli, suggesting broad utility of compliant 3D mesostructures in noninvasive mechanical measurements of soft biological tissues at the millimeter scale.

Dynamic Surface Electromyography Using Stretchable Screen-Printed Textile Electrodes

Andrea Spanu et al.

Summary: This research presents an optimized screen printing technique for the fabrication of textile electrodes based on PEDOT:PSS directly into stretchable garments, demonstrating good performance for dynamic sEMG detections. The results achieved pave the way for the integration of unobtrusive electrodes, obtained by screen printing of conductive polymers, into technical fabrics for rehabilitation and sport monitoring in dynamic conditions.
