Enhanced cocatalyst-free photocatalytic H2 evolution by the synergistic AIE and FRET for an Ir-complex conjugated porphyrin

Kailin Zheng et al.

Summary: A new ZnP-T-Ir photosensitizer, in which a T-Ir complex is conjugated to a porphyrin ring via a phenylene linkage, exhibits high efficiency in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution. The high efficiency can be attributed to the conjugation of the T-Ir moiety, along with the synergistic effect of aggregation-induced emission, inhibition of aggregation caused by quenching, and Forster resonance energy transfer.

Phenoxazine-Sensitized CO2-to-CO Reduction with an Iron Porphyrin Catalyst: A Redox Properties-Catalytic Performance Study

Martin Kientz et al.

Summary: We have evaluated six phenoxazine derivatives as visible light photosensitizers for the photochemical reduction of CO2 to CO with an iron porphyrin catalyst in organic media. The phenoxazine core was functionalized with electron-donating or -withdrawing groups to modify the photophysical properties. Our observation shows that there is no correlation between the production of CO and the excited state potential of the phenoxazine, but a clear correlation can be made between the oxidation potentials of the phenoxazine and the production of CO. This indicates that the process was limited by photosensitizer regeneration and that electron transfers not directly related to the catalyst activation could play a key role in homogeneous photocatalytic systems.

Controlling Solar Hydrogen Production by Organizing Porphyrins

Vasilis Nikolaou et al.

Summary: In this study, a highly efficient photocatalytic system for H-2 production is developed using porphyrins as photocatalysts. Self-organization of PdTCP and PtTCP into H- and J-aggregates on TiO2 NPs is crucial for H-2 evolution, with J-aggregated PtTCPs showing higher efficiency than H-aggregated PdTCPs. The simultaneous adsorption of PdTCP and PtTCP onto TiO2 NPs results in the most efficient catalytic system, achieving high turnover numbers.

Porphyrin Conjugated Polymer with Periodic Type II-Like Heterojunctions and Single-Atom Catalytic Sites for Broadband-Responsive Hydrogen Evolution

Jinming Wang et al.

Summary: A novel heterometallic Zn-/Co-porphyrin conjugated polymer (ZnCoP-F CP) with a Co-porphyrin bridging unit bearing two perfluorophenyls is synthesized via a Sonogashira coupling reaction. The enhanced performance of ZnCoP-F CP is attributed to the high electron-withdrawing capacity of its perfluorophenyls and the highly dispersed Co centers in Co-porphyrin bridging units. Broadband-responsive feature of ZnCoP-F CP is due to the large pi-conjugated system throughout the 2D internal framework of the porphyrin polymer.
