Bolting reduces ferulic acid and flavonoid biosynthesis and induces root lignification in Angelica sinensis

Meiling Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the root biomass, accumulations of ferulic acid, flavonoids, and lignin, antioxidant capacity, and related gene expression during four different bolting stages in Angelica sinensis. The results showed a decrease in root biomass, ferulic acid, and flavonoids, while an increase in lignin content during the bolting stages. Antioxidant capacity also decreased with growth and development. The differential expression of genes involved in the biosynthesis of ferulic acid, flavonoids, and lignin correlated with changes in metabolite accumulation. These findings provide useful references for improving the production of bioactive metabolites in A. sinensis.

Transcriptome analysis reveals the potential roles of long non-coding RNAs in feed efficiency of chicken

Parastoo Karimi et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the transcriptome characteristics of liver tissue in commercial and native chicken breeds with different feed efficiency. A large number of lncRNAs and target genes were identified and their functions were annotated. It was found that these lncRNAs might affect the differences in feed efficiency of chicken by modulating genes associated with lipid metabolism, carbohydrate metabolism, growth, etc.

Long Non-Coding RNAs as Emerging Regulators of Pathogen Response in Plants

Yashraaj Sharma et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are transcripts without protein-coding potential that play important roles in plant survival by regulating gene expression through epigenetic changes, transcription, and post-transcription. In particular, lncRNAs have diverse mechanisms in plant growth, development, and stress responses, with a focus on their potential against biotic stress. Further research is needed to better understand the functions and molecular mechanisms of lncRNAs in plant responses to pathogens.

Integrated transcriptomics and metabolites at different growth stages reveals the regulation mechanism of bolting and flowering of Angelica sinensis

J. Li et al.

Summary: The root of Angelica sinensis is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine, but early bolting and flowering can reduce root yield and quality. This study identified multiple genes controlling the early bolting and flowering process, with 38 differentially expressed genes related to flowering pathways. The integrated analysis of transcriptomics, hormones, and soluble sugars provides new insights into the regulation of Angelica sinensis early bolting and flowering.

Identification of the specific long-noncoding RNAs involved in night-break mediated flowering retardation in Chenopodium quinoa

Qi Wu et al.

Summary: Night-break (NB) has been shown to suppress flowering of short-day plants (SDPs). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important roles in plant flowering, but little is known about the relationship between lncRNAs and NB responses, especially in the short-day cereal quinoa. This study identified 4914 high-confidence lncRNAs in quinoa, with 91 showing specific responses to NB and SD. Co-expression analysis revealed potential flowering lncRNAs that may modulate quinoa NB responses by regulating the expression of floral homologous genes.

Role of Long Non-Coding RNAs and the Molecular Mechanisms Involved in Insulin Resistance

Vianet Argelia Tello-Flores et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are single-stranded RNA biomolecules with a length of >200 nt that are considered master regulators of pathological processes. They play important roles in insulin resistance (IR) and glucose homeostasis by regulating gene expression and participate in lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, inflammatory processes, and oxidative stress through different pathways. The mechanisms of lncRNAs vary depending on tissue, biological species, and the severity of IR.

Transcriptional Controls for Early Bolting and Flowering in Angelica sinensis

Mengfei Li et al.

Summary: This study compared transcript profiles of bolted and unbolted plants, identifying genes associated with floral development and the sucrose pathway that appear to coordinate the activation and inhibition of flowering genes, shedding light on the molecular signals that drive early bolting in plants. Over 72,000 unigenes were detected, with around 2600 differentially expressed genes observed.
