beta-Ga2O3 powders were synthesized by calcinations of GaOOH powders obtained through a hydrothermal method. The powders exhibited sensitive surface morphologies and optical properties to CO2 gas.
beta-Ga2O3 powders synthesized by calcinations of GaOOH powders, obtained through simple low temperature (100 degrees C) hydrothermal method at a pH of 9 by varying alkali addition rates (at slow and fast alkali addition) and aged for 5hrs. These two powder samples, showed polycrystalline nature upon investigation through XRD for structural and phase confirmation, exhibited monoclinic crystal structure. The micrographs of powder samples which resulted from SEM investigations showed voids on the surface with needle-like and ellipsoid shaped surface morphologies for the samples obtained at slow and fast rates of alkali addition respectively. Optical band gaps of the samples were calculated from KubelkaMunk plot resulted from the data obtained by UV-Visible spectroscopic analysis. Drop casted films these beta-Ga2O3 samples used for the detection of CO2 gas at different concentrations. Morphology based model proposed for room temperature CO2 gas sensing.
